About RCCG
In July 1909, a son was born into the Akindayomi family in Ondo State, Nigeria. Despite being
raised among idol worshippers, he felt a longing for a greater power and sought to understand
"The God who created the earth and everyone on it." This quest led him to the Church Missionary
Society, where he was baptized in 1927. However, still feeling spiritually unsatisfied, he
joined the Cherubim and Seraphim church in 1931.
During his time there, he began hearing a voice within him declaring, "You will be my servant,"
despite his reluctance to accept this calling. This inner struggle persisted for seven years,
marked by numerous failed business ventures that left him in debt and without peace. Eventually,
he surrendered himself to God, promising to go wherever he was called. Seeking confirmation, he
received reassurance through biblical passages, solidifying his commitment to God even without
financial security.
Married in 1941, he remained active in the Cherubim and Seraphim church until 1947, when
concerns about its departure from true doctrine led him to establish a house fellowship called
the Glory of God Fellowship. This small group grew rapidly, fueled by reports of miraculous
occurrences.
In a supernatural encounter, he received a vision of words, "The Redeemed Christian Church of
God," despite his illiteracy. This marked the establishment of a covenant with God, akin to the
biblical Abrahamic covenant, promising divine provision for the church's needs in exchange for
faithful service.
Thus, the Redeemed Christian Church of God was founded in 1952, with a divine mandate to spread
globally. Despite initial meetings in a house, the church eventually acquired its headquarters
in Lagos. In the early 1970s, the founder received a revelation about his successor, who was
identified as a young educated man yet to join the church. This prophecy was fulfilled when
Enoch Adejare Adeboye, a mathematics lecturer, became involved and was ordained as a
pastor.
Before his passing at the age of 71, the founder shared the covenant and future plans of the
church with Adeboye, confirming him as his successor. Since then, the church has experienced
significant growth, with thousands of parishes in Nigeria and branches worldwide, including in
Africa, Europe, the United States, and the Caribbean.
Today, the Redeemed Christian Church of God continues to thrive, known for its Holy Ghost
Service, attracting hundreds of thousands of attendees monthly at its headquarters in Lagos and
expanding to various countries across the globe.
